★★★★★
“Evelyn single-handedly taught me the entirety of the AP Biology curriculum. I ended up getting a 5 on the exam — and it’s only because of her great teaching skills. She made the lessons fun and taught me more than I needed to know in such a short time.”

“What really stood out was how prepared and thoughtful she was. She created practice activities tailored to my daughter’s needs and provided detailed notes after the session. My daughter left feeling much more confident and prepared.”

“Within just a few weeks under her guidance, he was able to turn things around and achieve a solid A — something we honestly weren’t sure was possible at the time. Evelyn has a real gift for breaking down difficult concepts in a way that makes sense and sticks.”

The Spark Your Mind Method™
Students do not all need the same support.
Some understand the material but struggle to recall it on a test. Others have foundational gaps that make each new unit harder. Some are already doing well and need a deeper challenge and stronger exam strategy. I start by figuring out where the breakdown is, then build from there.
Assess: Identify goals and determine whether the gap is in understanding, recall, study strategy, or test execution.
Train: Build concept mastery while developing more effective ways to retain and organize information.
Pressure-Test: Practice retrieving and applying knowledge under realistic test conditions.
Improved by one or more letter grades over the course of several weeks
Recovered from failing or near-failing grades within the same term
Earned 4s and 5s on AP science exams
Developed study systems they could use beyond a single class

About Me
Teaching Philosophy
I have worked with students who studied for hours and still couldn’t understand chemistry. I’ve also coached students pursuing top AP scores, competitive academic goals, and college credit. Their situations were different, but one challenge came up again and again.
A lack of clarity.
My role isn’t just to explain science or help with homework. I identify where understanding breaks down, then rebuild the foundation so students have a clear path forward.
Lesson Strategy
Every lesson combines subject mastery with practical strategies that teach students not only what to learn, but also how to learn independently.
I help students actively engage with the material by emphasizing discussion, using the “I Do, We Do, You Do” model. Sessions are collaborative. Students talk through their thinking, solve problems out loud, and ask questions freely. That process helps me uncover misunderstandings and adjust my explanations until the concepts click.
My goal extends beyond improving grades and comprehension. I guide students to think like scientists, creating a framework they can use long after our sessions end. Better grades naturally follow when students understand how to learn.
Why I Teach
I am a science specialist and solo tutor with a laboratory background in molecular genetics. That’s where I discovered that what I enjoyed most was teaching the science behind the work we were doing.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology and an Associate Degree in Natural Sciences, graduating with highest academic distinction. Today, I combine my science background with years of coaching to help students become independent learners long after our lessons end.
